Swedish courts and other parts of the legal system substantially fail to secure the right to a trial within a reasonable time – often jeopardising the effectiveness of the rule of law for individuals. The consequences can be devastating. It is stressful for the concerned individual to, year in and year out, live in constant uncertainty of the outcome in an important matter. Financially it can be equally serious. Professional plans are crushed and businesses go bankrupt.

As a part of the “Johan Björkman Project on the Rule of Law”, we scrutinise the delays in the legal system, we inform victims of their rights and we take cases to court.

Moreover, Centrum för rättvisa engages in other important cases where individuals stand up against authorities or political decision-makers and where the principle of the rule of law is at stake.
